Caleb Williams leads Bears to big win over Jaguars in London

The Chicago Bears got off to another slow start on Sunday in Week 6, going three-and-out on their first two drives of the game and watching the Jacksonville Jaguars take a 3-0 lead early in the game. But after that, quarterback Caleb Williams and the offense found their groove as the defense dominated en route to a 35-16 win.

Williams started the game 1-for-3 and took a sack on the first six plays from scrimmage for the offense. But after that, he took command of the offense as did the Bears of the game. The quarterback finished 23 of 29 for 226 yards, throwing for four touchdowns and just one interception in the win. It was the second straight game that the quarterback had a passer rating over 120. And more importantly, he gained confidence as the game went on.

After Chicago fell behind 3-0, Williams hit Cole Kmet for a 31-yard touchdown pass on a beautiful play design in the second quarter:

The two connected again at the end of the first half, Williams hitting Kmet for a two-yard pass to give them a 14-3 lead going into the break. And the second half was more of the same for the Bears.

Keenan Allen caught his first touchdown of the season, a nine-yard pass from Williams to give Chicago a 21-3 lead. The third touchdown pass of the game for Williams marked the first time a Bears rookie quarterback had thrown three touchdown passes in a game since Cade McNown in 1999. Williams and Allen connected again in the fourth quarter, this time on a three-yard strike to keep Chicago ahead 28-10.

A D’Andre Swift touchdown run was sandwiched by two Jaguars touchdowns to wrap up the scoring in the game.

Chicago now heads into the bye week at 4-1 and riding a four-game win streak. They will return to action in Week 8 as they face off against the Washington Commanders led by rookie Jayden Daniels.

Bears bites:

– The injury bug hit the Bears again. Long snapper Scott Daly left the game in the first half, leading to Cole Kmet being the long-snapper for the rest of the game. In addition to that, Kyler Gordon left the game in the third quarter and didn’t return.

– Chicago’s defense has now gone 12 straight games holding opponents to 21 points or less.

Cairo Santos did miss his lone field goal attempt as it looked like it was tipped.

Josh Blackwell got his first career interception in the second half.
