The Washington Capitals provided an update on Alex Ovechkin’s injury, Tuesday afternoon.
The team’s captain has been listed as week-to-week with a lower leg injury. Ovechkin was forced out of Monday night’s win over Utah HC after making leg-on-leg contact with Jack McBain in Washington’s defensive zone.

The 39-year-old winger hobbled back to the club’s locker room after attempting to stay on Washington’s bench. He was initially helped off the ice by Jakob Chychrun and head athletic trainer Jason Serbus. Ovechkin had already scored two goals in the game, giving him a league-leading 15 goals this season in his first 18 games.
Tuesday’s update comes after head coach Spencer Carbery provided little news postgame. “He’s being evaluated as we speak, and we’ll know more tomorrow,” Carbery said.

Ovechkin has missed just 59 total games in his career, 35 due to injury.
The Capitals are scheduled to practice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex on Wednesday morning and host the Colorado Avalanche at Capital One Arena on Thursday night. From then on, Washington has a game every other day for the rest of the month, finishing with a back-to-back against the New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils.
