Carlos Miguel has spoken about his transfer from Nottingham Forest to Palmeiras, insisting his time at the City Ground was “very important” for his career.
The Brazilian goalkeeper has returned to his homeland after just one season, having joined the Reds from Corinthians last summer.
“My expectations are the best possible,” he said. “I’m very happy to truly understand what Palmeiras is – its history and how the club is organised.
“This was very important in my decision to come to Palmeiras, and I’m very happy. I talked to my family, and the decision to return is the best possible.
“I would never hesitate to come to Palmeiras. For me, it’s a joy. I hope I can live up to everyone’s expectations. I’ll be 100% focused until my last day here.”
“What Palmeiras has is equal to many big clubs in Europe, and I believe others don’t have such a structure,” he added.
“I intend to stay here for many years and win titles. It’s about working to deserve it, achieve it, and get there.
“The experience in European football was very important. The Premier League is one of the top leagues in the world.
“I’m returning with a different mindset, a much more mature mind. It was very important for my career.”
According to reports, the deal makes Miguel the most expensive goalkeeper in Palmeiras’ history. The Brazilian club are said to have agreed to pay a fee in the region of €5.5 million (£4.6m), plus another €500,000 (£430,000) in bonuses, to secure 80 percent of the stopper’s rights. Forest will reportedly retain the remaining 20 percent and have a sell-on clause as part of the deal.
Miguel played understudy to No 1 Matz Sels for the Reds last season and made three appearances for the club.
