Cavs star Donovan Mitchell’s NBA All-Star starter status has fans hyped

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been one of the league’s biggest surprises thus far this season; from being a middle of the pack playoff team, they’ve emerged as a powerhouse team in the Eastern Conference, boasting a 36-7 record at the time of writing. As a result, members of the Cavs’ core should be rewarded in the form of All-Star nods, and on Thursday night, the first domino already fell as Donovan Mitchell received news that he has been named as a starter for the Eastern Conference in this year’s festivities.

Mitchell, who has been enjoying his journey as one of the biggest stars in the league, knows better than to take this kind of admiration for granted. The Cavs star expressed his gratitude for the validation he and his efforts received by making it to the All-Star team as a starter for the second consecutive season — his sixth straight All-Star roster inclusion.

“⭐️🙏🏾🕷️,” Mitchell wrote on his official account on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Fans, however, are split regarding the Cavs star’s inclusion on the East All-Star starting five. Some are hyped up and think that Mitchell does deserve to be included considering how well his team has been playing — with him starring for them.

“To be fair here’s how I feel about the all star starters, Brunson and Mitchell deserve it, Mitchell has lead his team to the best record in the league,” @JTSPECTOR wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Donovan Mitchell is the best player on the best team in the NBA. Why are we acting confused about him starting for All Star?” @HoodiGarland added.

Others, however, weren’t big fans of Mitchell starting over LaMelo Ball or Cade Cunningham, guards who have posted better stats than the Cavs star.

“No idea why Donovan Mitchell an all star lol that brother is not good and a trickster,” @Bjant96 wrote.

“Cade or Lamelo shouldve been over Brunson or Mitchell if we being fr,” @King__Smoov3 added.

Cavs should send three more All-Stars to join Donovan Mitchell

The Cavs’ emergence as the best team in the Eastern Conference should not just be credited to Donovan Mitchell. Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen have all been playing their parts in lifting the team to great heights, with new head coach Kenny Atkinson making the most out of the talent he has at their disposal.

At the very least, Garland and Mobley should be guaranteed to make it to the All-Star team, while Allen might be more on the fringes.
