CeeDee Lamb’s Contract Dispute Fuels Rise of 2 Promising Wide Receivers

CeeDee Lamb is currently in an undesirable situation with the Dallas Cowboys. The three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver has decided to skip the team’s mandatory minicamp in order to get his point across about getting a contract extension.

It does seem like both parties will eventually get a deal done but in the meantime, Lamb’s absence has allowed a couple of the team’s wide receivers to make their mark in the offseason.
Dallas Cowboys News: Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Brooks Have Impressed

It’s not ideal that Lamb was nowhere to be found in minicamp, but the silver lining is that at least two of the team’s younger wideouts have taken advantage of the veteran’s absence. According to ESPN analyst Todd Archer, both Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks have made some noise in camp:

“With CeeDee Lamb skipping the voluntary portions of the offseason program, it opened up more opportunities for young receivers Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks. Both showed flashes of ability. Brooks was able to work through traffic well, especially on tight throws on slants. Tolbert worked all three receiver spots and was able to make plays at all different levels. With Michael Gallup gone and the Cowboys not adding a veteran wide out as of yet, Tolbert or Brooks could be in line for the No. 3 role behind Lamb and Brandin Cooks,” Archer wrote.

It’s not as if Tolbert or Brooks will challenge Lamb for the WR1 spot if and when he returns to the lineup, but it’s good to know that they have grabbed the opportunity to show the coaching staff their worth.

The Cowboys will still do everything in their power to keep Lamb in Dallas, but at least they have some insurance in case negotiations don’t go according to plan.
