Celtic’s O’Riley urged to ‘set sights higher’ than Brighton

Chris Sutton has urged Matt O’Riley to stay at Celtic for one more season.

The Hoops hero delivered his instant reaction to the news that his former side had entered talks with Brighton & Hove Albion over a potential deal for the Denmark international.

The 23-year-old was impressive as he started Celtic’s Scottish Premiership opener against a weakened Kilmarnock side. The match finished 4-0 to the champions.

Brendan Rodgers is looking to add new players to his first team rather than lose his star man.

And while Sutton admits Brighton are a great club in England’s Premier League, he reckons one more year in Glasgow would do O’Riley the world of good.

He wrote on X: “With the greatest respect to Brighton who are a brilliantly run club I think Matt O’Riley should set his sights higher.
