Chiefs Find Isiah Pacheco Replacement With Pro-Bowl Free Agent

The Chiefs officially signed former star RB Kareem Hunt to the practice squad on Tuesday, reuniting with a controversial standout who remains beloved by fans and hopes to finish what he started back in 2017.

After being selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Hunt immediately led the NFL in rushing yards (1,327) as one of the league’s best running backs. Following a domestic violence incident that he was reportedly dishonest to ownership about, Hunt was swiftly cut.

He rebuilt his image with his hometown Cleveland Browns and now finds himself back where it all started.

Chiefs Sign RB Kareem Hunt to Practice Squad

Isiah Pacheco’s surprise injury created a huge need at running back. Hunt was the best option available and visited with the organization on Tuesday, seemingly doing enough to convince the front office that he’d learned from his mistakes.

It’ll take time for him to learn the new playbook and get caught up to speed, but he theoretically could become the lead running back while Pacheco is on the shelf.

Carson Steele and Samaje Perine will be the top two options for now. However, don’t be surprised if Hunt soon takes over a majority of the work. He’s never had a true opportunity to compete for a Super Bowl, so this now represents his best chance.

This reunion is something most never thought possible. It’s real now, and Hunt likely won’t be on the practice squad for long before he’s officially called back up and finds himself on the sideline at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
