Cincinnati Bengals: Massive Trade Still Looms Over Franchise (Report)

The Cincinnati Bengals are going into the 2024 season expecting to once again compete for a championship. With a healthy Joe Burrow under center, expectations will always be sky high.

However, there is one massive trade possibility that still lingers over the franchise as we approach training camp.

The Cincinnati Bengals Could Still Pull Off Massive Trade

In an article by Devavrat Kulkarni of NFL Analysis:

Tee Higgins, Wide Receiver, Cincinnati Bengals

Tee Higgins is one of the biggest names on most trade lists. He is currently set to start the season with the Cincinnati Bengals, but his situation is not the ideal one.

Higgins, who will be playing in his fifth season in 2024, was looking for a long-term deal with the Bengals. Unfortunately, after back and forth between the two parties, the Bengals decided to franchise tag Higgins who ultimately signed the deal.

The Bengals are pushing for a Super Bowl win with Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Higgins. What this means is that if they trade their WR2 then their aspirations would suffer a significant blow with Tyler Boyd already having signed with the Titans.

If they do end up keeping Higgins, then the downside would be that he would walk for free the following year.

After Justin Jefferson, Amon-Ra St., A.J. Brown, and others inked record-setting contracts this offseason, the Bengals are likely to prioritize signing Ja’Marr Chase to a record-setting contract. Due to Higgins’ request for a trade, the Bengals may not be eager to get a long-term deal done

“It would be bittersweet,” Higgins said during a recent appearance on the I Am Athlete podcast. “I would definitely love to be here [in Cincinnati], but if that’s not the situation, then that’s not the situation.”

As Tyler Boyd signed with the Tennessee Titans via free agency, this upcoming season may be Cincinnati’s last chance to mount a legitimate Super Bowl challenge with Chase and Higgins.
