Several NFL players love hoops. That includes Cleveland Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett who even showcased his basketball skills during the 2022 NBA Celebrity All-Star Game.

However, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski wants Garrett and the other Cleveland players who like hitting the hardcourt to always remember that their health should always be the priority, especially since it could take just one injury to put their football careers in jeopardy.

Via Marc Raimondi of ESPN:

“If it’s basketball against guys that look like me, I’m good with it,” Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said with a laugh. “But the guys, they always need to be careful about whatever they’re doing off the field.

“I’m like a mother hen. I just want everybody to be safe. I’d love to keep everybody locked in Berea [Ohio] in Bubble Wrap for the entire offseason.”

In Garrett’s case, he is someone the Browns can’t afford to get seriously injured. As one of the most important – and expensive – players on Cleveland’s payroll, Garrett is already trying to avoid giving in to the temptation of basketball. It can be recalled that the former No. 1 pick at the 2017 NFL Draft signed a five-year extension worth $125 million with the Browns in 2021.
Although Garrett still plays some basketball, he is now much more conscious about the competition.

“It’s for the better now,” Garrett said. “I’m still able to go to the gym and shoot, and every now and then get a little 2-on-2, 3-on-3 with the boys.

“But it’s definitely the smarter approach not to be with a random person who has nothing to lose. In those instances, those are unknown variables that I’m playing around with that I just don’t need to for the sake of the season or my career.”
