CeeDee Lamb’s return for the Dallas Cowboys is getting closer, with the All-Pro expected to be back for the Washington Commanders game on Sunday.
Having been out for the best part of three weeks with an ankle injury, it has been George Pickens who has stepped up and made big plays in Lamb’s absence, but now that 88 is trending towards returning, Dak Prescott has his two alpha receivers ready.
But given that CeeDee has been out for a little while, he won’t be jumping straight back into things, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer detailed what he needs to see from Lamb at practice this week to give him the green light for Sunday.
“If he’s breathing, I’d feel pretty good,” Schottenheimer said with a smile. “Honestly, yeah. CeeDee knows how to play football. If he runs around and catches a pass or two, I’m good.”
Lamb’s return huge boost for Cowboys
While the Cowboys’ offense has still been able to put up points at will without Lamb, now that 88 is likely back on Sunday, what that does for the unit that has Pickens, KaVontae Turpin (also back), and Jake Ferguson is huge.
Now, defenses can’t load the box to stop the run because doing so leaves Lamb and Pickens one-on-one, and that is nightmare fuel. Given the defensive struggles, it is clear Dallas has to score more points, and that is far easier with 88 on the field, which we expect him to be on Sunday.
The Cowboys’ offense has to be nearly perfect for this team to win, and when you are chasing perfection, having an All-Pro receiver return to your line-up is just what the doctor ordered.
Lamb is back, and so too might be the Cowboys.
