Daniel Dubois’ team have sought to set the record straight on whether ‘Triple D’ has sacked his trainer just days before fight night.
The British heavyweight titan is currently in London doing his fight week media obligations ahead of his clash with Anthony Joshua on Saturday night at Wembley Stadium.
However, his trainer, Don Charles was nowhere to be seen at the Grand Arrivals on Tuesday or the Public Workouts the next day.
Charles’ absence led to speculation that Dubois had changed trainers ahead of this weekend.
However, talkSPORT.com has been informed by a rep for Frank Warren’s Queensberry that Charles remains Dubois’ head trainer and will be in his corner as planned for the Joshua fight.
This comes after ex-boxer Spencer Fearon, now a boxing media personality, told The Stomping Ground: “I have got no doubt that Don Charles may have to turn up…
“After the Usyk fight, Daniel Dubois’ father asked me to come to his home which I went to and he says to me that he wants to get rid of Don and that he is not serious.
“I begged him to keep Don Charles, so Don don’t know this but they wanted to get rid of you.
“So I see a lot of holes in the game of those people there and also Daniel Dubois’ dad is a weird human being…
“I’ve got nothing against Dubois, he’s a lovely kid but he’s going to wake up and realise he is being taken advantage of by his old man because his dad is being vicarious.”
Dubois can’t afford to get caught up in any such pre-fight drama.
The 26-year-old has the biggest fight of his life only a matter of days away.
Dubois was recently upgraded from interim to full IBF world champion in June after Oleksandr Usyk vacated the title to pursue a rematch with Tyson Fury on December 21.
He is therefore set to make the first defence of his red and gold strap against AJ but that isn’t the only thing on the line.
The winner will punch their ticket for a blockbuster showdown with either Fury or Usyk.
Both men are set to be ringside for the clash, although the Ukrainian looked as though he wouldn’t be able to make it at one point after videos emerged of him being arrested by Polish police at Krakowv Airport on Tuesday night.
Luckily, Usyk later took to social media to insist the matter had been a ‘misunderstanding’ that had since been resolved.
He wrote: “Dear friends, a misunderstanding took place. It was quickly resolved. Thanks to all who got concerned.
“Thanks to Ukrainian diplomats for the efficient support.
“And respect to Polish Police for conducting their obligations with no regards to height, weight, reach and regalia.
“Thanks God to everything.”
