The Boston Celtics are the balls.
That’s been a popular phrase since the 1980s.
It was 1984 when Donnie Beardsley, a young Celtics fan, went viral — even before that was a thing — when asked about his beloved Celtics:
“Who’s gonna win it? The Celtics! Because there’s no other reason why. The Celtics are the balls,” he said, enthused.

Unbeknownst to him, he’d end up becoming a legend and coining a legendary motto for the Celtics’ faithful.
That’s why Derrick White made sure to pay tribute to that fan with the first pic he shared after inking his signature on a very lucrative contract extension.

Truth be told, they are, indeed, the balls right now.
Joe Mazzulla’s team crushed its opposition from start to finish last season.
The Celtics lost only three games throughout the course of the entire postseason, establishing themselves amongst some of the greatest teams this game had ever seen.
With that in mind, Brad Stevens made sure to avoid making the same mistake other teams have made in the past, doubling down on his roster and keeping as many players around and locked in for years to come.
White became a fan favorite in Boston because of his grit, hustle, electrifying defense and timely shot-making, and they will be thrilled to have him around for longer.
