Draymond Green thinks Wolves won the draft be taking Rob Dillingham

The San Antonio Spurs had the fourth pick and the eighth pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. With the fourth selection, they drafted Stephon Castle, a high-profile guard from UConn.

That’s partially why it was a surprise to see them draft Rob Dillingham at No. 8.

However, it made more sense when it was immediately made known that Dillingham, the Kentucky Wildcats standout freshman, was going to be traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Wolves, according to Draymond Green, a widely known media personality and one of the best defenders of his generation, won the draft because of the trade. Green clearly thinks highly of what Dillingham is capable of.

“Who won the draft to me was the Minnesota Timberwolves. And the reason the Minnesota Timberwolves won the draft is because they drafted their point guard of the future in Rob Dillingham, who I think is a very special player,” Green said on The Draymond Green Show.

Green is among the few NBA players to know firsthand what it’s like for a guard to transform a franchise. His teammate, Stephen Curry, changed the way basketball was played while being a multi-time MVP and one of the best offensive players in the history of the game.

It’s a long shot to say Dillingham could be at that level of impact, but there’s certainly a chance, as he has that microwave-type ability to heat up and score at will. Dillingham averaged the second-most points per game, 15.2, for the Wildcats last season. Shooting 47.5% from the field, he was also an efficient weapon.

Dilly is that good, and with Anthony Edwards in Minnesota, the sky will be the ceiling for what he’s capable of doing, even as soon as this coming season.
