The 2024 Stanley Cup Final is set after the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Dallas Stars 2-1 on Sunday.
Edmonton got goals from superstar center Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman. Stuart Skinner, who lost his starting job earlier in the postseason, made 34 saves and was named the First Star of the Game for his efforts.
“It feels like a dream,” McDavid told Sportsnet postgame. “It was a crazy one tonight. Not our best effort but we hung in there and found a way to get a win. [Skinner] was great, everybody played great. Just hung in there. It wasn’t pretty but we got it done.”
Per Elliotte Friedman, Edmonton managed only 10 shots in the victory — the fewest in a Conference Finals clincher.
Crazy NHL records set tonight:
Edmonton's 10 shots were fewest in a Conference Finals clincher.
Previous: 17 by Boston when knocking out Washington in the 1990 Wales Conference Final.Worst shot differential by a winning team in Conference Finals clincher, minus-25 (35-10).…

The appearance in the championship series marks McDavid’s first-career Stanley Cup Final after nine seasons in the league and five prior playoff failures. McDavid has 31 points (5g, 26a) in 18 playoff games this year.
The Oilers will join the Florida Panthers in this year’s Stanley Cup Final that begins in Sunrise, FLA on Saturday, June 8. Florida has home-ice in the series after finishing the season with 110 standings points.

The Panthers are back vying for a championship after they saw the NHL’s ultimate prize slip away in five games to the Vegas Golden Knights last year.
To vie again for Lord Stanley’s Cup, Florida defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in five games in the first round, the Boston Bruins in six games in the second round, and the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Rangers in six games in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Panthers are making their third-ever appearance in the Stanley Cup Final and were unsuccessful in their prior two attempts.
The Oilers (104 points) will have to wait until Game 3 to host their first Stanley Cup Final games since Edmonton was defeated in seven games by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006.
Edmonton defeated the Los Angeles Kings in five games in the first round, the Vancouver Canucks in seven games in the second round, and the Stars in six games in the Western Conference Finals. This will be the franchise’s eighth-ever appearance in the Stanley Cup Final and they have won the Cup five times prior with the last victory coming in 1990.
Edmonton is seeking to become the first Canadian team to win a Cup since the 1993 Montreal Canadiens.
