Emiliano Martinez thinks £50m player should leave Arsenal and join a club where ‘he feels loved’

Emiliano Martinez has become a bit of an enemy to some Arsenal fans since he was sold to Aston Villa.

The Argentina international spent a decade in North London, but it was only in his final year at the club that he made a brilliant name for himself.

Many Arsenal fans were angry that Mikel Arteta decided to keep Bernd Leno and sell Martinez in 2020, but some of the Aston Villa star’s comments in recent years have ruffled a few feathers.

Now, Martinez has said something that may annoy some Arsenal fans even more.

Emiliano Martinez thinks Aaron Ramsdale should leave Arsenal

Aaron Ramsdale has had a really difficult 11 months at Arsenal.

The England international started the 2023/24 season as the Gunners’ number one. But, after just three games in the Premier League, Arteta dropped him and picked David Raya instead.

The Spain international had a tremendous campaign at the Emirates, and his loan was turned into a permanent deal at the start of July.

That, combined with the fact that Ramsdale didn’t play a minute in pre-season, has all but confirmed that he has no future at Arsenal.

Now, Martinez, who had found himself in a similar position once upon a time, has had his say on the situation.

The Argentine has suggested that Ramsdale should leave the Gunners this summer to join a club where he will play and feel loved.

He told The Telegraph: “It’s a different position to me as Aaron signed for big money. He was the number one for Arsenal. I never had a chance like that.

“When you play every game in the Premier League and, then you drop to the bench with the quality that Aaron has, I think he should find a place to play where he feels loved.

“He is a player that England needs in their goalkeeping area. He has a great future.”

The latest on Ramsdale’s future

It is clear at this point that there is no way back for Ramsdale to become Arsenal’s first-chocie goalkeeper again. Raya is the undisputed number one now, and we don’t expect that to change.

Ramsdale has two options now – he can either sit on the bench and wait for opportunities in the cup games or leave the club to become the first-choice elsewhere.

If he chooses the latter, reports have claimed that Wolves and Bournemouth are both interested in signing Ramsdale before the window shuts next wek.

The Sun had claimed in June that Arsenal are demanding at least £50 million to sell Ramsdale.

We can’t imagine any club paying a fee even close to the above figure in the final few days of this summer’s transfer window.
