Everton mock Anthony Gordon with savage video after penalty miss for Newcastle

Everton poked fun at Anthony Gordon on social media after he missed a penalty against his former club.

The former Toffees star squandered the opportunity to score for Newcastle from 12 yards in their 0-0 draw at Goodison Park.

Gordon was met with boos from the Everton faithful throughout the match and jubilant celebrations behind the goal when he missed.

And in the morning after the stalemate, the Merseyside outfit took to social media to mock his saved penalty attempt.

Posting on their X account, Everton quote replied to a fan who said: “Wish they had of played the buzzer from half time when the penalty was saved.”

Their reply included a clip of Gordon’s penalty miss, with a negative buzzer played over the top when Jordan Pickford made his save.

Gordon’s appearance at Goodison Park was his third for Newcastle since he completed his initial £40million move from Everton in 2023.

talkSPORT reported prior to his departure that he missed training at Finch Farm for three consecutive days.

Everton fans were therefore not shy to show their feelings towards Gordon on Saturday, doing so with continuous booing and jeers.

Despite the hostile reception and penalty miss, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was pleased with how the winger responded.

“Naturally he will be disappointed but a much better performance from him today than here last year, I thought he dealt with the occasion well,” he said.

“I thought he handled that disappointment really well as I know from personal experience, not missing a penalty but making a mistake, the moment goes against you and plays on your mind. It can affect you negatively.

“He really learned from last season’s game and international experience. There was a lot of pressure on him on that moment.

“He has been an outstanding penalty taker so I have no issues with him taking it or taking them in the future.

“Anyone can miss a penalty. We absolutely support him and he’s been incredible for us and tactically he gave them a problem.”

Gordon has been playing in a centre-forward role for Newcastle as of late amid injuries to Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.

He has netted crucial equalisers in 1-1 draws against Bournemouth and Manchester City so far this season, with Magpies now winless in the Premier League in three matches.

Newcastle remain just a point outside of the European qualification spots but Everton will be far happier with the draw.

Sean Dyche’s side, who picked up their first league win of the season last weekend, are four points clear of the relegation zone.
