Everton need to think outside of the box this summer transfer window if they want to maximize their chances at climbing out of the relegation dead zone and back into the middle of the Premier League table.
For years, Everton were a fixture in the top half of the table, and while the Toffees should aspire to climb that high in the future, they will need to take baby steps in an ever-changing Premier League climate.
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Everton have found an intriguing transfer target from Napoli in left winger and attacking midfielder Jesper Lindstrom.
Per Fab, Everton have opened talks with Napoli for the Danish international, and Napoli are willing to sell the 24-year-old at the right price.
Lindstrom was one of several disappointing Napoli signings and failed to hit the ground running for the defending Serie A champions, who struggled as a team in their first season without Luciano Spalletti.
Napoli burned through manager after manager, so Lindstrom never really stood a chance in a new team, in a new league, and with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia getting virtually every start on the left wing.
Lindstrom started just two matches and played fewer than 500 Serie A minutes, likely leaving the ex-Eintracht Frankfurt man wondering why on earth he left the Bundesliga.
He was one of the better attacking players in the German top flight for two seasons, scoring seven goals in the 2022/23 Bundesliga campaign while averaging 1.6 key passes per game with 1.1 dribbles completed and 9 total goal contributions in the previous season.
Everton need all the help they can get, but they should be careful not to overpay for Lindstrom, who cost Napoli 30 million euros last summer.
After a down season, Lindstrom shouldn’t be worth that much, but Napoli love to sell high and Lindstrom is a talented, relatively young player who cost them a pretty penny.
Napoli will want to try and make a profit one year later to get something out of a transfer that has been disappointing and hasn’t fit. Everton can get a good player in Lindstrom, but they must tread with caution.
