Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams was first acquired by the team in a trade with the Green Bay Packers prior to the 2022 NFL Draft. The story of how the trade came to be is fairly well known by now, over two years later.
After his contract with the Packers expired, they placed the franchise tag on him in hopes to continue his run with the team while working on a long-term extension. Unhappy with the Packers’ initial contract offer and unwilling to play on the franchise tag, he requested a trade.
His trade to the Raiders reunited him with Derek Carr, who had been his quarterback in college. It also gave him the opportunity to play closer to his family. His grandparents were able to watch him play in an NFL game for the first time.
But what started out as a pleasant situation quickly turned.
The Las Vegas Raider Have Not Been a Successful Football Team While Davante Adams Has Been on the Roster
In his first season with the Raiders, Adams had 100 receptions for 1,516 yards and an NFL-leading 14 touchdowns. As successful as he was, tough, the team could not overcome other factors that kept them from being a winning franchise.
Carr was sent home before the season even ended and was released when it was over. He signed with the New Orleans Saints and had a successful year in 2023, completing 68.4% of his passes for 3,878 yards, 25 touchdowns, just eight interceptions, and a 97.7 passer rating. The Saints were 9-8 last season but missed the NFL Playoffs.
Adams and the Raiders, on the other hand, went 8-9 and struggled to find the right quarterback to lead their team. Jimmy Garoppolo, Aidan O’Connell, and Brian Hoyer all made starts at the position, with O’Connell having the most success.
For his part, Adams had 103 receptions for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns, but did not make the Pro Bowl or an All-Pro team for the first time since 2016.
The turmoil the team faced last season, along with footage from the “Receiver” documentary on Netflix, led many to believe that Adams was unhappy in Las Vegas. Over the course of this offseason, trade rumors involving the three-time All-Pro have swirled.
Former NFL Wide Receiver DeSean Jackson Reported Davante Adams Told Him He Wanted to Be Traded by the Las Vegas Raiders
Of course, the most common trade rumor involving Adams stated that he could/would be sent to the New York Jets to reunite with four-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers. It is, after all, well-known that the Jets attempted to acquire Adams at the trade deadline last year.
Both Adams and Rodgers, though, have denied the rumor that either of them has attempted to make such a trade happen.
Last month, former NFL wide receiver DeSean Jackson told “The Herd” that Adams had told him directly that he is “unhappy” in Las Vegas. These comments ignited even more trade rumors, especially with the regular season quickly approaching.
On Wednesday, Adams addressed Jackson’s comments with a firm explanation during his media session.
Davante Adams Says Rumors Stating He Is Unhappy with the Las Vegas Raiders Are “B——t”
On Wednesday, Adams was asked about Jackson’s comments on “The Herd,” and he, once again, reiterated how happy he is to be playing in Las Vegas.

“At the end of the day, the facts are the facts and that is not a fact,” he said. “I’ve probably spoken to DeSean Jackson maybe three or four times in my life and I never had a conversation about him ever. And I put that on my kids. I’ve never spoken to him about anything. The only person I really talk to about my feelings in general is my wife, probably, and she ain’t out there leaking anything and dropping stuff like that in the team.
“So, once again, whatever you see, if it ain’t from the horse’s mouth, it’s probably bulls—.”
As one may have guessed, Raiders fans (and fans of the NFL in general) had mixed reactions to Adams’ statement.
Davante should start suing for defamation at this point, the amount of people who’ve lied on his name is astronomical https://t.co/SoeT9yW0iC

Despite the fact that Adams has, once again, stated that he is happy playing for the Raiders, any struggles they may go through this season are going to reignite the trade rumors.
And given the fact that Adams has no guaranteed money left on his contract after this season, he may be traded, regardless of how happy he is, if Las Vegas struggles before the deadline.
