Nottingham Forest’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end against West Ham United this afternoon.
Second half goals from Jarrod Bowen, a Lucas Paqueta penalty and Callum Wilson meant Forest didn’t take any points from the contest.
The Reds are next in action after the international break when we travel to Arsenal.
Before kick-off on Trentside, all inside the City Ground remembered the late former Forest skipper Terry Hennessey, with a minute’s applause impeccably observed by all four corners of our home.
The Reds enjoyed plenty of possession in the West Ham half of the field in the opening 45 minutes.
The visitors remained deep throughout, looking to catch Nuno Espírito Santo’s side on the break, but Forest were quick to win the ball back to prevent the Hammers getting a foothold in the match.
The Hammers did create an opening on 38 minutes when Lucas Paqueta’s drive was well tipped over the bar by Matz Sels.
Half time: Forest 0-0 West Ham United
Forest continued to enjoy all the possession early in the second and came closest to opening the scoring when Chris Wood’s headed effort was held by Mads Hermansen in the West Ham goal.
Moments later at the other end of the field, Paqueta’s close range went wide of Sels’ goal before Niclas Fullkrüg’s stinging strike was parried away from goal by our Belgian ‘keeper.
The Reds began to hold possession in the Hammers’ half of the field once more, putting the visitors’ goal under sustained pressure resulting in Callum Hudson-Odoi’s effort being held by Hermansen.
Hammers substitute Callum Wilson almost opened the scoring on 68 minutes when his deflected strike forced Sels into another fine save, tipping the ball over the bar.
With time beginning to run down, the visitors opened the scoring when Bowen’s low drive found the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
The visitors added a second when Paqueta rolled in a penalty after Sangaré was adjudged to have fouled Crysencio Summerville. Wilson added another in added time.
Forest now have a break from Premier League football for the international spell, before returning to face Arsenal on September 13.
