Former Browns offensive lineman says sticking with Deshaun Watson isn’t fair to the other players on the team

Deshaun Watson’s problems continued on Sunday as the Browns lost to the Eagles on Sunday, 20-16, to fall to 1-5 on the season.

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said after the game that he will stick with Watson as his starting quarterback. But one former Browns offensive lineman was not thrilled with the idea.

“It’s incredibly (bad) to do this to the rest of the team. Joel Bitonio is out there every week playing through who knows what and has to wreck his body when they have no chance of being good b/c of the QB. Myles Garrett is playing in pain every week. Feel for everyone else there,” former Browns offensive lineman Mitchell Schwartz posted on social media.

Schwartz was a second-round pick of the Browns in 2012 and played four seasons in Cleveland, including two with Bitonio when the Browns drafted him in the second round in 2014. Schwartz signed with the Chiefs after 2015 and played the final five seasons of his career in Kansas City, winning a Super Bowl during the 2019 season.

Watson completed 16 of 23 passes for 168 yards, and he was sacked five times in the loss to the Eagles.

He has failed to throw for 200 yards in a game this season. In addition, the Browns have yet to gain 300 yards or score 20 points in a game in 2024.
