Former Green Bay Packers Linebacker Signs with the Washington Commanders

The Green Bay Packers saw many of their players from the 2023 NFL season sign with new teams for 2024. Perhaps the most noteworthy of these is running back Aaron Jones, who signed with the Minnesota Vikings after the Packers released him earlier this offseason. Former All-Pro linebacker De’Vondre Campbell, who was also released, signed with the San Francisco 49ers.

Other notable former Packers players from the 2023 season that have found new teams for 2024 are Darnell Savage (Jacksonville Jaguars), Rudy Ford (Jaguars), Jon Runyan Jr. (New York Giants), Yosh Nijman (Carolina Panthers), and Jonathan Owens (Chicago Bears).

On Monday night, another former Green Bay defensive player signed with a new team.

Former Green Bay Packers Linebacker Justin Hollins Signed with the Washington Commanders

According to the Washington Commanders’ website, they came to an agreement on a contract with free agent linebacker Justin Hollins. The details of the contract are not yet public.

Hollins was first acquired by the Packers in 2022 following his mid-season release from the Los Angeles Rams, with whom he won the Super Bowl. Green Bay brought Hollins back for the start of the 2023 season, but released him after four games.

Hollins played one game for the New York Giants following his released by the Packers before being let go again. He was then signed by the Los Angeles Chargers, with whom he played seven games in 2023.

All told, Hollins appeared in 10 games for the Packers, accumulating 2.5 sacks and 18 tackles.

As mentioned above, Hollins played for three teams in 2023: the Packers, Giants, and Chargers. He is, perhaps, best-known for his days with the Rams because they won the Super Bowl while he was there.

Los Angeles, though, was not his original team. Hollins was first drafted into the NFL by the Denver Broncos, who took him in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He played one season for the Broncos, racking up one sack and 21 tackles.
Hollins was waived by the Broncos right before the start of the 2020 NFL season. He signed with the Rams shortly after, though, and played all 16 games of the next season, accumulating 3.0 sacks and 28 tackles.

In 2021, Hollins played in just eight games due to injury but had 2.0 sacks and 21 tackles.

2022 saw the Oregon product released by the Rams after 10 games. At the time of his release, he had no sacks and 26 tackles. After signing with the Packers, he had 2.5 sacks and nine tackles in six games.

Last year, Hollins played 12 games for three teams. He had one sack and 17 tackles as he bounced from team to team.
Hopefully he can find a bigger role and more consistent play with Washington.
