Former NFL GM Reveals The Situation The Packers Are Facing With Jordan Love

Again, the Green Bay Packers are in the enviable position of having a promising young star quarterback whom they need to secure for the future.

Jordan Love obviously spent his two years preparing behind Aaron Rodgers well, and he broke out in a huge way in 2023 in his first year as a full-time starter.

Love led the team to a rebound in the season’s second half and marched the Pack to a playoff win in Dallas and within an eyelash of upsetting the mighty 49ers.

Now it’s time for Green Bay to pay up, and Love knows he’s in the driver’s seat.

NFL insider Michael Lombardi told Pat McAfee that the Packers and Love “are gonna have to find a way to meet in the middle…I think he’s played great but these are hard contracts to do.”

The rookie contract is quickly winding down and must be replaced.

But Lombardi and others argue that Love’s body of quality work spans roughly half a season, and that may not be enough to convince team management to fork over a top-dollar deal.

In the range, for instance, of Trevor Lawrence’s $275 million extension.

Lombardi noted that the team and Love’s representatives should find a way, whether through incentives or yearly increases in salary, to get a deal done that is satisfactory for both sides.

The uncertainty surrounding Love’s ability to duplicate the second half of last season makes negotiations difficult.

However, the scarcity of quality young quarterback starters in the NFL may force the Pack’s hand.
