The Indiana Pacers traded a lot to get Pascal Siakam. Siakam was the player that they targeted who could best help get the most out of Tyrese Haliburton. Haliburton is the most important player on the team. Siakam was the second-most important guy once he got to Indiana.
That’s why Indiana made Siakam a priority in free agency. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, he agreed to sign a four-year max deal worth $189.5 million. He was the first domino to fall in free agency. Every other transaction the Pacers have done has gone off of that fact.
And yet, the deal hasn’t been officially announced. Obi Toppin’s new deal has been announced. The signing of James Wiseman has been announced. So why hasn’t the deal with Siakam been announced yet? What could the possible reasons be for that?
Why haven’t the Pacers announced Pascal Siakam’s deal?
Let’s get the least likely scenario for this out of the way first. Perhaps there’s an issue with the cap or Siakam has changed his mind about signing in Indiana. That could be why the deal hasn’t been officially announced despite the moratorium being over.
I truly don’t think that’s the reason. What is more likely is further discussions about the final number that Siakam signs for. Perhaps they are trying to get him to sign for just a bit less to get them under the cap. That would give them more flexibility to make a possible sign-and-trade.
What is the most likely scenario? I believe it’s just figuring out the exact amount of the contract. There is no reason for Pacers fans to be concerned. I’m sure it will be announced officially in the coming days. Siakam has wanted to be in Indiana since he was traded to the Pacers.
Siakam is one of the most important players on this team. There’s no reason to think that he won’t continue to be over the next four years.
