Ipswich Town In £30 Million Bid For Championship Duo

The pair have been chased by a host of clubs this summer, but recent reports have suggested that it has been a straight battle between The Tractor Boys and Premier League rivals West Ham United. Kieran Mckenna’s side are undoubtedly going to want to strengthen their squad this summer after their impressive promotion back to the top flight for the first time since 2002.

Portman Road has already been a hive of activity, with two players coming in from Premier League outfits. Both Ben Johnson and Omari Hutchinson arrived from West Ham and Chelsea respectively this week, showing the ambition the Suffolk outfit are aiming for.

That ambition would only be more evident with this reported bid. At the age of 23, Greaves has already shown himself to be one of the most promising young defenders in the second tier, being an integral part of a Hull side that only narrowly missed out on ending their season with a play-off campaign. The experience of the youngster is also not to be overlooked, having already played over 150 times for The Tigers, despite his age.

Philogene also impressed massively in Liam Rosenior’s team last season, registering 18 goal contributions in 32 Championship appearances. Numbers like that being put up by a 22-year-old meant that interest was inevitable this window.

Having joined from Aston Villa last summer, the West Midlands outfit may be frustrated if the winger were to move on to Ipswich, as the side reportedly have a buy-back clause in the deal, which is only in effect if the Humberside outfit get promoted.

With only a handful of current starters under the age of 23, this could be the perfect deal for Ipswich to inject some youth into the side as they hope to stave off the ignominy of relegation.

Writer’s View

If Ipswich are to beat the competition to these signings, then it would be a fantastic deal for a club already showing their ambition to do smart business this summer. Wingers in McKenna’s system are pivotal and that is exactly why this would not just be a perfect move for the club, but also for Philogene who has already shown his ability in the division below.

Furthermore, Greaves has already made it clear to all who have watched him that he is ready for the step up. Not only is he already a perfectly competent defender, he is still nowhere near his prime. £30 Million may seem a large amount for a newly promoted side on the face of it, but the sell-on value present could make this deal worth it no matter what.
