For the past few years, Ja Morant has been hounded by various controversies on and off the court. Interestingly, the Memphis Grizzlies star admitted he is aware of his reputation as a “villain” in the NBA amid all the negativity coming his way.
Speaking after Memphis’ close 110-108 win over the Miami Heat, the two-time All-Star expressed his thoughts about the criticisms he has received and if the negative comments have bothered him.
“I’m kind of used it,” Morant said in his presser after delivering the game-winning shot against the Heat. “I was pretty much a villain for two years now. Every little thing – If somebody can say something negative about me, it’s going to be out there. Yeah, I don’t care anymore.”

One of the most significant controversies involving Morant happened in March 2023 when he was seen brandishing a firearm during an Instagram Live session. This incident led to a 25-game suspension from the league and raised concerns about his off-court behavior.
Prior to that incident, Morant was already suspended by the league for eight games after showing a gun while in a Denver nightclub.
Regarding his on-court antics, Ja Morant was recently caught mimicking a gun and pointing it toward the Golden State Warriors bench during a game against the Stephen Curry-led team. This led to another wave of negative reactions directed toward the Grizzlies star.
Morant also repeated the same gesture against the Heat.
While his talent on the court remains undeniable, these issues continue to shape his narrative in the NBA. Nevertheless, Ja Morant has made it clear that the negativity has not bothered him at all.
