The 2023-24 season was one to forget for the Memphis Grizzlies. Between injury woes and Ja Morant’s off-the-court issues, the team barely had a chance as they ultimately finished with a 27-55 record.
Hopes were high to begin the new season, and the Grizzlies are firmly in the mix of the Western Conference with a 6-4 record through their first 10 games. The 25-year-old point guard has looked as good as ever despite playing fewer minutes as he works his way back from last year’s torn labrum.
Unfortunately, the injury woes may still be present after Morant suffered what was first believed to be a hamstring injury in the 131-114 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Nov. 6.
Now, it appears Morant is going to miss “at least a week” of game time due to a hip injury, according to Senior NBA Insider Chris Haynes. The Grizzlies star officially suffered a “posterior hip subluxation along with multiple associated Grade 1 pelvic muscle strains.”
Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant will be sidelined at least a week after imaging revealed a posterior hip subluxation along with multiple associated Grade 1 pelvic muscle strains.

A full recovery for a posterior hip subluxation is anywhere between two to three months. The pelvic muscle strains Morant is having adds some complications to his hip injury as well.
Despite that, the Grizzlies may be taking a week-by-week approach with their superstar point guard. There is a chance he can play through the injury. But the organization may have to conduct further testing on Morant’s hip before making a final decision.
Morant will be ruled out for the Grizzlies next three games at least. Memphis will face off against the Portland Trail Blazers, Lakers, and Golden Stat Warriors in that stretch. Based on Haynes’ report, Morant may return on Nov. 17 for the Grizzlies home game against the Denver Nuggets.
Scottie Pippen Jr. will fill in as the starting point guard for Memphis until Morant returns to reaction. Through eight games played so far this season, Morant is averaging 20.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 9.1 assists per game. He’s also shooting 44.8% from the field, which is the lowest in his career so far.
