Jalen Williams Gets Honest About OKC Thunder Before NBA Finals

The Oklahoma City Thunder made relatively light work of the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals in a 4-1 gentleman’s sweep. The one loss was unusual for a team that has shown its dominance, especially when they lost by more than 40.

But now, the Thunder are going back to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2012. The Thunder have been the best team in the league throughout the season, so it’s of little to no surprise to see them in the NBA Finals after clinching the league’s best record in the regular season.

It also helps when you have the league’s best player on your team in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. He took home the league’s Most Valuable Player award after leading the league in scoring with 32.7 points per game.

Jalen Williams’ career year has also been crucial to the Thunder’s success. He’s gotten better every year, and the NBA voters took notice. After notching career-highs in points, rebounds and assists, Williams was named to the All-NBA Third Team as well as the NBA All-Defensive Second Team.

Ahead of their matchup with the Indiana Pacers, Williams spoke on the team’s camaraderie and character.

“When I first got here, I told my parents I didn’t expect to get along with the group as well as I did. It’s really an organic thing,” Williams said. “That’s probably a Sam Presti question regarding background checks.”

The Thunder have gone viral multiple times for their now-famous on-court group interviews, and having players of good character is where that starts. If the Thunder are the ones lifting up the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy when it’s all said and done, the team’s closeness on and off the court shouldn’t be understated.

The Thunder are -700 favorites to win the NBA Finals, which is an implied probability of 87.5%.
