Ja’Marr Chase Receives Harsh Punishment From NFL For ‘Abusive’ Language

The NFL handed Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase a hefty fine for his actions in the team’s Week 2 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Chase was visibly frustrated following a tackle in the fourth quarter with the Bengals trailing the Chiefs by a point in an emotionally charged game between AFC rivals.

Per Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the league fined Chase $31,599 for “abusive” language.

Per Pelissero:

“The NFL fined Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase $31,599 for unsportsmanlike conduct – screaming at referee Alex Kemp, who flagged Chase for abusive language. Chase wanted a flag for a hip-drop tackle on Trent McDuffie, who was neither flagged nor fined.”

The NFL fined #Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase $31,599 for unsportsmanlike conduct – screaming at referee Alex Kemp, who flagged Chase for abusive language.

The league banned the hip-drop tackle before the 2024 season. Chase isn’t the only offensive player to claim they were victims of the illegal tackle this season.

The Houston Texans believed the hip-drop tackle was the cause of the injury running back Joe Mixon sustained against the Chicago Bears in Week 2.

Chase’s reaction was more volatile than Mixon’s. The league is slapping Chase with a harsh fine for his reaction during the game. Most fines the league passed out this weekend range between $5-15,000.

Chase and the 0-2 Bengals are set to play the Washington Commanders on Monday night.
