Jarrett Allen signs $91 million extension with Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers front office has consistently signaled they feel confident in their core. Extending Jarrett Allen for another three years shows they aren’t bluffing.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Allen has agreed to a three-year, $91 million dollar extension with the Cavs — securing himself $131 million over the next five seasons.

Allen, at 26 years old, is one of the most reliable bigs in today’s NBA. He’s an elite rim protector who has anchored numerous top-five defenses. Meanwhile, Allen is a dominant finisher — shooting 63% from the floor for his career.

An annual salary of $30 million might seem hefty but it’s important to remember, today’s salary cap is not the one from 10 years ago. Allen’s extension is right on par with other players of his caliber and is a fantastic deal for a player in the middle of his prime.

Last season, Allen averaged 16.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and a career-high 2.7 assists. His growth as an on-ball initiator is something to keep an eye on as Allen’s value not only justifies his contract but potentially surpasses it.

The Cavaliers have now secured their core four of Allen, Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland and Evan Mobley to long-term extensions. It’s clear the front office wants to ride with this group. Now let’s see where it takes them.
