Celtics star Jaylen Brown is preparing for his villain arc ahead of the 2024-25 season. In a series of messages on social media, the two-way swingman vowed to take his game to another level in order to shut the haters up once and for all.
“I want blood,” said Brown in response to a potential villain year.
It wasn’t just on Instagram that Jaylen Brown released his plans for the upcoming season. he also posted a rather cryptic message on X, seemingly vowing to prove himself as one of the top players in the game.

Whether you love him or hate him, Jaylen Brown’s status as a star is inarguable. He’s a core member of the Celtics with eight years of experience. At just 27 years old, he’s set to hit his prime this upcoming season.
Coming off a championship run, you would think that Jaylen would feel more secure in his legacy than ever before. He averaged 23.0 points per game last season, made his third All-Star appearance, and led the Celtics to the best record in the league. In the playoffs, he had the best stretch of his career, winning both Eastern Conference MVP and NBA Finals MVP as he carried the franchise to their 18th championship.
But even after a career year in the NBA, Jaylen Brown has plenty of reasons to feel overlooked and disrespected by his peers. It was just weeks after championship celebrations that Jaylen was hit with the news that he would not be joining his teammates at the Paris Olympic Games. Instead, he had to watch as his own Celtics teammates got the nod. Even when they needed a replacement for Kawhi Leonard, Brown was quickly dismissed in favor of two-way guard Derrick White.
At the time, Brown was beside himself that the USA would skip over him so easily and he eventually blamed Nike for gate-keeping the whole event. Sadly, it wasn’t enough to get him in and he had no choice but to look on as Team USA captured the Gold.
Going into next season, it’s no surprise that Jaylen will be carrying a chip on his shoulder. Even after reaching the pinnacle of basketball success, both he and the Celtics continue to be overlooked.
After teams like the Knicks, 76ers, and Orlando Magic made improvements this summer many fans are split on who will be the last one standing next year. But with a roster that includes Brown, Jayson Tatum, Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday, and Derrick White, the Celtics should be poised for their best season yet.
Tatum alone, who averaged 26.9 points per game last season, will ensure the Celtics are a maximum threat in the East and there’s no reason to think they can’t make a hard push to defend their title.
As a core piece of the championship team, Jaylen Brown will also play a huge role in determining the outcome. If he stays locked in and can develop his ball-handling skills, he could put together the best stretch of his career and it will make the Celtics nearly unstoppable. So even if he has to make enemies along the way, Jaylen Brown is going to be on a mission next season to earn the respect and validation he feels has been sorely lacking.
