Joe Biden Makes Unexpected ‘Secret Service’ Admission During Celtics’ White House Visit

After many years of making deep playoff runs but falling just short of a title, the Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown-led Boston Celtics finally got over the hump to end the 2023-24 NBA season, defeating the Dallas Mavericks in five games in the finals to secure the organization’s 18th banner.

On Friday, the Celtics will face the Washington Wizards in the nation’s capital for their third game of the NBA Cup. Boston is in second place in the East Group C standings, with a record of 1-1 and a point differential of two.

One day before the game, the Celtics made a trip to the White House and were honored by the President of the United States, Joe Biden. This has become a common tradition for sports teams after winning their league championships.

During his speech, Biden had an awkward moment where he had to confirm with the team if they were, in fact, the Celtics. Afterward, Biden went on to reveal his Secret Service code name, which was more relevant than what some would expect.

“Let me just say, all of you may not know this, but my Secret Service name is ‘Celtic,'” Biden said. “For real. Because I’m Irish. Everybody behind me is Irish in their heart. I feel a special pride in this trophy, from this old Irish Celtic to all you Celtics. Congratulations.”

Biden also pulled out one of the more popular quotes from the Celtics’ legendary coach and executive, Red Auerbach, who helped bring the team 16 of their 18 championships.

“You all know what the great Red Auerbach said,” Biden added. “The Celtics aren’t just a basketball team, they’re a way of life.”

After beating the undefeated Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night, the Celtics have moved to 12-3 on the season but remain in second place in the Eastern Conference. Still, they remain the team to beat across the NBA.
