Joe Burrow Breaks Bengals’ Single-Season Franchise Record on Sunday

The 5-8 Cincinnati Bengals are taking on the 3-10 Tennessee Titans on Sunday as the team hopes to earn its sixth win of the season. Although it’s been a roller coaster of a year for Cincinnati, quarterback Joe Burrow has been magnificent.

Burrow recorded three touchdowns in the first half against the Titans, leading the Bengals to a 24-14 lead going into halftime. He’s also well on pace to surpass 300 passing yards once again.

However, his efforts in the first half ended up being historic for the Bengals. After hitting wide receiver Tee Higgins for a 37-yard touchdown, the 28-year-old quarterback broke the single-season franchise record for passing touchdowns.

That score gave Burrow his 36th touchdown pass on the season, which broke his previous record of 35 that he set in the 2022 season. He has a true chance to surpass the 40 touchdown mark as well, as the Bengals have three games remaining on the schedule after Sunday’s contest against the Titans.

Burrow’s numbers this season are undeniably great. Entering Sunday’s game, the Bengals star quarterback had accumulated 3,706 passing yards 33 passing touchdowns, and six interceptions while throwing a 68.4% completion percentage.

He’s connected often with superstar wideout Ja’Marr Chase. The 24-year-old wide receiver has recorded 100 receptions, 1,403 yards, and 15 touchdowns, pending the end of the Titans game.

Somehow, Cincinnati is well behind the playoff race despite remaining in the hunt. The Bengals are a long shot for the postseason, as they’ll have just a 5% chance of making the playoffs if they beat the Titans on Sunday.

Burrow will likely continue lighting up the scoreboard as he attempts to lead his team to the playoffs. But the Bengals have a tough stretch of matchups to end the regular season.

After the Titans game, Cincinnati must still face the Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, and Pittsburgh Steelers. An inter-divisional matchup and facing off against two of the leagues best defenses makes the Bengals’ route to the playoffs a tough one.

For Cincinnati to make the postseason, they’ll need to win out while the Broncos (8-5), Indianapolis Colts (6-7), and Miami Dolphins (6-7) drop in the playoff standings.
