JOK agrees to contract extension with Browns, contract details included

After having been in contract talks much of the offseason, the Cleveland Browns have reached an extension with standout LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. At the beginning of August, we heard that a lot of progress had been made toward reaching a deal, and now we know the terms: a 3-year extension worth up to $39 million, with $25 million guaranteed.

In our training camp linebacker preview posted the other day, we talked about how important it was for Cleveland to reach an extension with JOK. He is coming off of his best season with 101 combined tackles, 3.5 sacks, 6 passes defended, 2 interceptions, and 1 forced fumble. He also had an impressive 20 tackles for a loss, which ranked fourth in the NFL. He also made his first Pro Bowl in 2023 and was Pro Football Focus’ 18th-ranked linebacker.

He consistently showed the ability to be an asset against both the run and pass during his “breakout” season in Jim Schwartz’s new defense. Schwartz made it a point to make sure that Owusu-Koramoah was on the field as much as possible in 2023 due to his overall importance to the defense as both a leader and playmaker.

The Browns have confirmed the signing:

It’s great to see that the team and “JOK” were able to come together and get an extension done before the 2024 regular season begins. Owusu-Koramoah is undoubtedly primed for another big season this year and it’s comforting to know that he’ll be a Cleveland Brown for the foreseeable future.
