Julius Randle has a $30 million player option for the 2025-26 season with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He will likely pick up that option, but that would also mean he will become an unrestricted free agent in the 2026 offseason.
If Julius is asked if he wants to re-sign with the Timberwolves now, he would stay with the team. This is a strong development after the shocking trade in the 2024 offseason that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to New York for Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, and a first-round pick.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been an impressive team in the second half of the 2024-25 season. That can be linked to Randle meshing well with the team after a shaky start.
Julius is an experienced player, but it took some getting used to within the Timberwolves’ system. His leadership has shone for Minnesota, averaging 18.7 points, seven rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. Coach Chris Finch trusts him to be the secondary star to Anthony Edwards, and they work well as a formidable partnership.

Randle Is Open To Staying For The Long Term
Since Randle is only 30, it would be good to find a long-term home for him with the Timberwolves. He fits in well with the culture, and all his teammates love playing with him. Julius brings good vibes to the locker room and is a reliable veteran who teaches the younger players some lessons about the league.
He might have gotten used to playing for the Knicks in a prominent location like New York City, but he has taken a liking to the state of Minnesota, except for the cold, which has taken some time to get used to. But, he does showcase a love for his new home. “I would love to. Top to bottom, the organization has been amazing. I love playing with the guys on this team. The city and my family have adjusted well, I love our neighborhood and our house,” Randle said about his transition to Minnesota. “From a basketball standpoint, I love playing here. I love playing for Coach (Finch). Tim (Connelly), A-Rod, the support they got has been amazing.”
Randle Will Be Embraced By Minnesota’s Fans
The Timberwolves are one of the biggest shows in Minnesota. They are a big sports state with the Vikings, Lynx, and many other teams across professional and collegiate sports. Randle and his family should expect to be embraced by the entire fan base, especially since he is playing so well for the team.

He looks ready to commit to the Timberwolves, but he will have to wait a year before he can decide. Julius looks likely to pick up that player option in the 2025 offseason, which could open the door for a new contract with the Timberwolves.
That will be the deciding factor because general manager Tim Connelly gets the final say with contracts. If Minnesota keeps improving with Randle on the roster, it will be hard to deny him the chance to stick around with the team and get a hefty contract to go along with that.
