Kevin Stefanski Reveals What He’s Seeing From Shedeur Sanders

The Cleveland Browns wrapped up mandatory minicamp Thursday with their quarterback competition still wide open.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski has been evaluating four candidates for the position, and while rookie Shedeur Sanders faces an uphill battle, his work ethic has caught the coaching staff’s attention.

The former Colorado quarterback has made steady progress since arriving in Cleveland, showing improvement from rookie minicamp through organized team activities and into minicamp.

“He’s a very, very hard worker; he has fun when he’s in the building. I’m enjoying watching him progress with every single meeting, with every single rep he’s doing a great job,” Stefanski said on the Cleveland Browns Daily podcast. “He’s doing a really, really nice job. I think he’s showing up early, he’s staying late. He continues to get better every single day, and that’s the fun part.”

Sanders has backed up his strong work habits with solid performance during spring practices.

According to ESPN Cleveland’s quarterback tracker, the rookie completed 41 of 53 passes while throwing nine touchdowns against just one interception across five practices open to media coverage.

Those numbers tell an encouraging story for a player many viewed as a long shot when the Browns selected him.

Sanders has approached each practice session with the same intensity, treating every rep as an opportunity to prove himself worthy of a roster spot.

The real test awaits in training camp, where evaluation becomes more serious and competition intensifies.

Questions remain about how many quarterbacks Cleveland plans to carry on the final roster, with some analysts suggesting a trade could shake up the depth chart before the season begins.

Sanders hasn’t let external speculation affect his focus. The rookie continues building relationships with teammates while refining his understanding of the offensive system.

Training camp will provide his first opportunity to work with the first-team defense, marking a crucial step in his development.
