The Sacramento Kings have turned their season around, but they are still expected to make some major changes to their roster ahead of the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline.
After a slow start to the season which led to them firing head coach Mike Brown and replacing him with Doug Christie, Sacramento has been one of the hottest teams in the NBA over the past month. They currently hold a 24-23 record, which has them sitting 10th in the Western Conference standings.
While the Kings have been on fire recently, it was reported earlier in the week that they are open to trading away their star point guard De’Aaron Fox. Fox has not committed to a future with the Kings and since he is set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2026, the Kings believe that this is a perfect time to trade him and receive the largest return possible.
With Fox now in the trade market, many teams have expressed interest in trading for the 27-year-old guard, but the Kings may also look to include another one of their players alongside him in a potential trade to cut salary.
According to Forbes’ Evan Sidery, Kevin Huerter could be included alongside Fox in a trade before the deadline. Sidery also mentioned that Sacramento has been shopping Huerter for over a year as they are looking to offload his contract that pays him $16.8 million this season and $18 million in 2025-26.
Huerter has been in trade rumors for a while now, but the Kings have yet to find a trade suitor for him. The 26-year-old is having a down season and has struggled over the past two seasons with the Kings.
This season, Huerter is averaging 8.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game while shooting an abysmal 41.2% from the field and 30.0% from three.
With his struggles this season, other teams have shown little interest in acquiring him, which could allow the Kings to attach him to a Fox trade to finally move on from him.
