Kirk Cousins Makes NFL History With Clutch Drive That Doomed Eagles

After a disappointing debut for the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1’s 18-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Kirk Cousins played like the quarterback his team thought he’d be when it signed him to a $180 million deal last March – at least for one drive during Monday night’s 22-21 win against the Philadelphia Eagles.

With the Falcons trailing Philly by six points and with under two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Cousins put on his cape and connected on 5-of-6 attempts in Atlanta’s final drive of the contest. His last completion was a touchdown grab by wide receiver Drake London that tied the game and set up Younghoe Koo for the game-winning kick.

According to OptaSTATS, Cousins became just the first NFL quarterback over the last 30 years to complete an incredible feat in the clutch during a road game.

“On the GW drive, the @AtlantaFalcons’ Kirk Cousins: completed 80% of his passes, threw for 70+ yards and threw for the winning TD,” shared OptaSTATS.

“No other NFL QB in last 30 years has done that on a drive that began in the last 2 minutes, on the road, with his team needing a TD to erase the deficit.”

Despite all the criticisms hurled at Cousins after the Steelers game, he was able to find a way to redeem himself when the Falcons needed him to deliver the most. Hopefully for Cousins and the Falcons, this is the start of a winning trend for the team, as Atlanta now gets ready for a Week 3 faceoff against the Kansas City Chiefs.
