Could Knicks’ Donte DiVincenzo Contend for Sixth Man of the Year?

The New York Knicks made a huge move this offseason when they traded for Mikal Bridges, and he will slide in to the team’s starting lineup. As a result, Donte DiVincenzo will most likely be pushed to the bench.

In a recent article by Dylan Backer of Empire Sports Media, he makes three bold predictions for the Knicks this season. One of the takes he has is that DiVincenzo will be a finalist for Sixth Man of the Year.

“It is still unclear how DiVincenzo will fit in with a team that now has so many top options at their disposal, but he has experience playing in a reserve role, as he came off the bench with the Milwaukee Bucks and spent half of his games with the Golden State Warriors in that role,” Backer writes.

The 27-year-old guard was great in the starting lineup for the Knicks this past season, but his style of play could make an impact no matter how many minutes he is given.

DiVincenzo averaged 15 points and just under four rebounds per game, and he did so while only missing one game the entire season.

He shot a spectacular 40 percent from beyond the arc, and was third in the league in three-pointers made, only behind Luka Doncic and Stephen Curry.

If he can keep up that level of play while coming off the bench for the Knicks, he could be in the running for Sixth Man of the Year.
