Knicks to open season against Celtics

While the schedule for the 2024-25 NBA regular season has yet to be released, we have finally started to get rumors of some of the matchups on key dates. We heard last week that the Knicks would be hosting Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs on Christmas Day. And two days after Team USA won gold in Paris, we have reports pitting the New York Knicks against the reigning champions Boston Celtics on opening night.

This will mark the third time in the last four seasons that the Knicks will play the Celtics on the inaugural day of the season. Making this year’s game even more exciting will be the fact that Boston is coming off winning the franchise’s and league-leading 18th championship.

The game, which is set to take place on October 22nd, will be held in Boston at TD Garden where the Celtics, including former Knicks forward Kristaps Porzingis, will be getting their rings.

While the first game of the season is almost never indicative of how a team will finish the season, all eyes will still be on this marquee divisional matchup for several reasons. The Celtics will officially begin their quest to repeat, and they’ll do so against a Knicks team who many are picking as the biggest threat to dethrone the Celtics.

New York is coming off of an impressive yet bittersweet 23-24 season, and will get an early opportunity to see just how well they stack up against the defending champs. And since March 4th, 2023, Boston has only lost two regular season games at home, going an impressive 29-2 in that span. The two losses? Both against the Knicks.

If the reports are true, this should be a fun game between two teams that intend to win it all.
