Entering Thursday’s Phillies vs. Braves matchup, Kyle Schwarber was 0 for his last 20.
Philadelphia’s star slugger, who has turned in a career year ahead of his 2025 free agency, fell into a cold spell in the team’s latest series against the Mets. As the Phillies struggled at Citi Field, allowing New York to gain ground in the NL East, Schwarber’s bat cooled from his previous barrage of dingers and run-scoring hits.
That is, until Thursday night, when Schwarber had likely the greatest performance of his career.
The designated hitter came into the night tied with Shohei Ohtani for an NL-leading 45 home runs. He came out of the ballgame barely trailing Cal Raleigh (50) for the MLB lead. Schwarber mashed four homers against the Braves, logging an offensive performance that will go down in league history.
Here’s a look at Schwarber’s four-home run game, from his full stats in Phillies vs. Braves, to the exclusive club he joined with his power display.
Kyle Schwarber stats today vs. Braves
Hits-AB: 4-6
Home Runs: 4
Runs: 4
RBIs: 9
Schwarber’s massive night came in a much-needed offensive outburst for the Phillies, who were swept out by the Mets on the road earlier this week. Facing a Braves pitching staff that has struggled through injuries this season, Philadelphia’s bats woke up for 20 hits, led by Schwarber.
In total, the Phillies scored 19 runs, nine of which were driven in by Schwarber in a 19-4 win. Schwarber’s four-homer night was the 21st in MLB history and just the fourth in Phillies franchise history.

Schwarber’s nine RBIs were also a new Phillies single-game record. He was on the verge of joining the 10 RBI club, which has only happened 16 times in MLB history.
Per StatMuse, Schwarber joined Scooter Gennett as the only players to record at least four home runs and nine RBIs in a game since 1995. When those stat requirements are stretched across MLB history, the designated hitter became just the fifth player to reach four homers and nine RBIs in a ballgame, per Paul Casella.
By the end of the night, Schwarber was on pace to break the Phillies’ single-season home run record, which was set by Ryan Howard in 2006 when he won NL MVP.

Kyle Schwarber 4-homer game highlights
In typical fashion for his 2025 season so far, Schwarber absolutely smoked a baseball into the Citizens Bank Park stands in the bottom of the first, a solo shot that went into the second deck.

His second of the night, and No. 5 of the game for the Phillies, was also a “Schwarbomb” that was skied high in the air and snuck past the right-field pole.

By the fifth frame, the rout was on for Philadelphia. Schwarber wasn’t done, though. He went for a rare opposite-field shot that made it over the left-field wall, also driving in a total of three runs on his third homer.

But still, the NL’s leading slugger wanted more. For home run No. 49 on the season and No. 4 on the night, Schwarber went back to right field, smashing a line drive that hit off an advertisement below the second deck. As Schwarber joined elite MLB company with his four-homer game, he also pulled within one long ball of Raleigh for the 2025 league lead.

Schwarber did get an opportunity to make it the first five-homer game in MLB history, even facing a position player on the mound, but he instead popped one up to the disappointment of the home crowd.

4-HR games in MLB history
Schwarber’s four-homer game was the 21st in MLB history. There has never been a five-homer game.
Interestingly, there have also now been three 4-homer performances in the 2025 MLB season alone. That is a new record, as the Athletics’ Nick Kurtz and Diamondback-turned-Mariner Eugenio Suarez also accomplished the feat in 2025.
