Latest Davante Adams update is bittersweet for nervous Jets fans

The Las Vegas Raiders career of superstar wide receiver Davante Adams is coming to a close soon, as the receiver has all but officially requested a trade. The NY Jets will be snooping around his market, as they have old friend Aaron Rodgers at quarterback.

Though the offense is much better than this year, New York’s 2-2 record is leaving many fans wanting more. Adding Adams, who reportedly is eyeing a link-up with Rodgers, could be one way to turn the tide.

According to all the noteworthy insiders, Adams wants to be a Jet. This is hardly surprising, as Adams has previously leaked that he wants to play for a quarterback he has familiarity with. However, the Raiders aren’t going to give him away for free.

Ian Rapoport confirmed that Adams is open to playing for other teams despite New York being at the top of his list. Tom Telesco isn’t going to do Joe Douglas’ bidding either, as the Raiders will shop around for the top price instead of handing him over to the Jets in a gift basket.

Latest Davante Adams update makes NY Jets trade more difficult

Douglas is not the kind of guy who gets into bidding wars. As has been proven with the Haason Reddick situation and countless free agent negotiations, Douglas will find a price he thinks is reasonable and stick to it. He is not the type, right or wrong, to get involved in crazy bidding wars.

Even with his job possibly on the line, Douglas may not be willing to fork over a ton of assets to the Raiders when the Jets will likely need to redo Adams’ deal and save enough money for young stars like Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner. Wide receiver is also not a pressing need due to the play of Mike Williams and Allen Lazard.

However, with Adams clearly pining for a trade to New York as he looks to link back up with Rodgers, there could be a motivation for both sides to get a deal done in the same way the Jets and Packers had to work through a Rodgers deal a few offseasons ago. Get ready for more “leverage” discussion!

While the Jets should feel good about their position in the great Adams sweepstakes, they also have the misfortune of trying to compete with the rest of the league while remaining financially flexible. Will the power of friendship win out, or will Douglas refuse to budge?
