Leicester City complete fifth signing of the summer

Leicester City have completed their fifth signing of the summer with Brighton midfielder Facundo Buonanotte arriving on a season-long loan.

Buonanotte comes in three weeks after City’s previous signing to end their wait for a new recruit, Steve Cooper finally getting a signing in attacking midfield, which has been one of the club’s transfer priorities. The 19-year-old could even make his first appearance for the club on Saturday afternoon, having travelled with the squad to Lens for their final pre-season friendly.

City have been desperately short of options in attacking midfield since Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s departure, with Bobby De Cordova-Reid the only senior man available there previously, with youngsters Will Alves and Michael Golding as back-up. Buonanotte could be coming in as a starter.

Playing in the number 10 role or on the right wing, left-footed Buonanotte scored three goals in 27 Premier League appearances last season, 17 of those coming as starts for the Seagulls. He’s been with Brighton for 18 months since joining from Rosario Central in his native Argentina, for whom he has two senior caps.

He has Europa League experience too after Brighton’s campaign last term, and City will hope he can provide some creativity in forward areas, something that has been lacking in recent friendlies.
