Lions CB Carlton Davis III Gives Update On Injury Scare After Sunday Night Win Over Rams

The Detroit Lions defeated the Los Angeles Rams by a score of 26-20 in overtime on Sunday night, a game that saw the Lions defeat their legendary ex-franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford for the second time this calendar year.

The Lions got an injury scare late in the game with both teams tied at 20 apiece. Key offseason addition Carlton Davis III dove for a pass that Stafford sailed over his receiver’s head and almost came up with a crucial interception.

Davis III remained on the Ford Field turf as trainers checked him out for some time after the attempt. After the game, Davis updated Lions reporter Colton Pouncy on his status.

“Saw Carlton Davis III in the locker room,” Pouncy wrote on his X account. “Told me he just got the wind knocked out of him. No need to panic.” The Lions’ new-look secondary had its moments including a Kerby Joseph interception of Stafford in the end zone, but yielded over 300 yards passing to the Rams even with star wide receiver Puka Nacua sidelined due to injury. Davis III had 10 tackles on the night.

The Lions were outgained by a final total of 387 yards to 363 yards but took control in the overtime period, running the ball down the Rams’ throats en route to a game sealing touchdown.

Next up for Detroit is a road test against Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals – another chance for Davis III and the rest of Detroit’s defensive backfield to show what they can do against a talented and explosive NFC quarterback.
