Sunday, star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson suffered a serious leg injury against the Dallas Cowboys in the second half.

Lions went up 34-6 with another score after halftime, extending their lead over an overmatched Cowboys team. Hutchinson sacked Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, but his leg got wrapped up awkwardly, and Hutchinson immediately grimiced in pain.
Every Lions player left the sideline to be by Hutchinson’s side as trainers treated him.

Having a breakout season, Hutchinson is a vital part of the Lions’ fourth ranked run defense entering this week. Pro Football Reference lists him as the NFL’s leader with 23 pressures, and at least one sack in each of the Lions’ first three games.

According to Andrew Birkel of The Detroit Free Press:

The broadcast quickly went to commercial and when they came back, Fox sports play-by-play man Kevin Burkhardt said they were not going to show the replay because it was so graphic.

The Lions already have lost one starting to defensive end to a season-ending injury – Marcus Davenport tore his triceps in a Week 3 win over the Arizona Cardinals – and used Josh Paschal and Isaac Ukwu as defensive ends after Hutchinson’s injury.

Defensive tackle Kyle Peko also left the game with a pectoral injury in the first half and was ruled out for the game.

It was the exact kind of play that you fear when your team is up big, and while nothing is official, you have to assume the worst for Hutchinson, who’s leg appeared to bend in a very unnatural way on the play.
