Los Angeles Clippers Sign 1 Intriguing Rotation Player to Non-Guaranteed Contract

The Los Angeles Clippers are still trying to deal with the repercussions of Paul George’s departure from the team. It’s unlikely they will find a one-for-one replacement for what PG13 brought to the Clippers, though they have been linked with a controversial player who could be a decent replacement.

While the team is still assessing which big player they can place alongside Kawhi Leonard, the front office is busy addressing the team’s depth issues. They have already taken measures by bringing over Kevin Porter Jr. after a year away from the league.

While the fans are still assessing whether bringing back such a polarizing player was the right move, they’ve picked up another unproven asset who is yet to make a deep impression in the league.

Los Angeles Clippers sign former Charlotte Hornets C Kai Jones

Kai Jones isn’t the most coveted big man in free agency, and his performance during his two-year stint with the Charlotte Hornets didn’t instill much confidence for him to get a contract with the team.

However, the Clippers still believe that he has enough potential to offer him a non-guaranteed contract to try and get into an NBA roster in the coming season.

Roy Maher of Hoops Rumors writes:

The Clippers are re-signing free agent big man Kai Jones to a non-guaranteed contract, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic (via Twitter).

Charania doesn’t specify the length of the deal, but he says the Bahamian forward/center will be competing for a roster spot in training camp.

Jones will have a rough ride if he’s going to make the Clippers roster. He’ll be fighting the likes of Mo Bamba, Kobe Brown, Ivica Zubac, and PJ Tucker for a spot in the roster, and all of them are marginally better than him.

In his two years with the Hornets, Kai Jones averaged 2.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.5 blocks a game. He’ll be in for a good year if he manages to break through to the 15-man roster by the start of the 2024-25 season.
