Luka Doncic Gets Honest About Klay Thompson’s Big Performance

After their loss in the NBA Finals last year, the Dallas Mavericks knew they needed to add at least one more star player to their rotation.

Yes, Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic are one of the best duos in the sport, but even they were unable to come up with a series win when they needed it most.

Thankfully, the front office was more than willing to pony up the necessary cash to get a deal done, and landed Klay Thompson as a result.

Thompson struggled with injuries during his final years with the Golden State Warriors, but when he’s healthy, Thompson is one of the best shooters in the league.

This is exactly what the Mavericks needed, and it was displayed in full force during their first game of the 2024-2025 season, as Thompson scored 22 points, most of which came from beyond the three-point arc.

Doncic couldn’t be happier to have Thompson sharing the court with him.

As reporter Joey Mistretta highlighted on X, Doncic told reporters in a post-game press conference that Thompson makes his life easier.

The veteran guard not only takes the pressure off Doncic, but he takes the pressure off Irving and their other teammates as well.

Having a three-point threat forces defenses to respect his game, which frees up Doncic and Irving to have success in their respects.

Some people thought it might take a few games for this trio to mesh and figure things out, but it looks like they’re already in midseason form.
