Boston Bruins head coach Marco Sturm is impressed with his team’s third line through two games.
Boston has Tanner Jeannot, Fraser Minten, and Mikey Eyssimont as its third line, and it’s been an impressive line. The Bruins signed Jeannot and Eyssimont this offseason, while trading for Minten at the deadline last year.
The third line has brought energy to Boston, and Sturm said it’s very simple as to why they have gotten his trust already.
“Very simple,” Sturm said of his third line, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “They like to grind. They like to work. Defensively responsible. They’re killers for me. They do exactly what I want from a third line.”
Not only does the line work hard, but the line has also produced offensively. Minten scored the Bruins’ OT winner on Thursday against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Jeannot also scored the Bruins’ second goal of the game, which Eyssimont assisted.
The third line impressed enough in the game that Sturm trusted Minten to go out on three-on-three OT alongside Morgan Geekie.
Minten proved Sturm’s decision right as the rookie scored to give the Bruins the 4-3 win.
“I was thinking pass,” Minten said. “Geeks has got a great one-T. I was looking there. Then saw it was taken. So I tried to throw a little deception in.”
Boston is off to a 2-0 start this season. The Bruins will host the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday against 7 p.m. ET.
