Mets’ Sean Reid-Foley to throw first bullpen Saturday: ‘Trending in the right direction’

Sean Reid-Foley is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said, another positive step in the reliever’s return from injury.

This will be the first time the right-hander has returned to a mound since he landed on the injured list with a right shoulder impingement on June 22.

Reid-Foley played catch on Thursday and is “trending in the right direction,” Mendoza said Friday ahead of New York’s series opener against the Colorado Rockies at Citi Field.

This comes after the Mets got good news on reliever Reed Garrett, who is dealing with nerve inflammation in his right elbow.

Ten days ago, the manager said Reid-Foley was “feeling better,” but the club had to “make sure that he’s symptom-free before he picks up the baseball.”

Reid-Foley had been one of the Mets’ best relievers this season, pitching to a 1.66 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 21.2 innings over 23 appearances. He has tallied 25 strikeouts to 14 walks.

The expectation is that Reid-Foley, who is eligible to come off the IL when he is ready, will be activated sometime after the All-Star break.

The 28-year-old missed the start of the 2024 campaign due to a shoulder impingement that landed him on the IL after spring training. He made his season debut on April 22.
