Dru Smith is returning to the Miami Heat on a two-way contract, the team announced Monday.
Last season, Smith was given a two-way contract after summer league and was then converted to a standard contract before the season.
Smith appeared in nine games for the Heat last season, averaging 4.3 PPG and 1.6 APG before suffering a season-ending knee injury against the Calavilers on Nov. 22.
Smith was impactful in some of Miami’s early regular season wins, including a 12-point performance in a 118-113 comeback win against the San Antonio Spurs on Nov. 12 and a nine-point game against the Hawks to help lead the way to a win, both without Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro on Nov. 11.
Smith was on Miami’s summer league roster in 2021 and 2022 and had been given the opportunity to make the Heat’s roster. However, he was cut both times before he signed a two-way contract with the Brooklyn Nets during the 2023 season before rejoining the Heat last season.
After getting a two-way, Smith will most likely be on the Heat’s 2024 summer league roster and will get a chance along with Zyon Pullin to make the roster once again, as the Heat are in desperate need of guard depth after the departure of Delon Wright.
