Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has provided an injury update on midfielder Mason Mount, who was sidelined for the 3-2 Premier League win over Fulham at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils secured a third-straight league victory after a good attacking display against the Cottagers. They were cruising at 2-0 before a late comeback from the visitors.
Benjamin Sesko, however, ensured that United were on the winning side with a stoppage-time winner.
United reclaimed their fourth spot in the standings with the win and will aim to continue their good form when they entertain Tottenham Hotspur at home on Saturday afternoon.
Matthijs de Ligt, Patrick Dorgu and Mason Mount were among those absent yesterday. The latter’s exclusion was a surprise, given that he had been training as usual earlier in the week.
Carrick has now provided an update on Mount, he said: “He took a bit of a knock in training. But it’s nothing serious. We’re disappointed he is not with us today but he’ll be back very soon.”
The £55 million signing has had a tough time at United due to injuries and increased competition for places. He is no longer an assured starter and has been an unused substitute of late.
The injury to Dorgu opened the door for Matheus Cunha to start on the left wing yesterday. We had anticipated Mount to get some minutes off the bench, but he was ruled out instead.
As Carrick said, the injury concern is only minor, and hopefully Mount will be back in the squad when the Red Devils take on Spurs, who have had the edge in recent meetings in all competitions.
United are winless in the last eight matches against Spurs, with three 2-2 draws. They have the perfect chance to end the streak with Spurs in poor form and missing several key players due to injuries.
